New hotels, flats and more - this is how Milton Keynes City Centre will change in 2019 and beyond

2018 was a massive year for announcements of new hotels, developments and more for Milton Keynes. This is how they will change the City Centre in 2019 and beyond.

In March, we told you about how the green light had been given to the new 'tallest building in town' (at the time) with a 14-storey luxury hotel planned to be built near John Lewis in the City Centre.

'Hotel La Tour', which is due to open in 2020, will be the tallest building in the Milton Keynes City Centre, with a top floor viewing platform included as part of the plans.

Part of the new plans include a public viewing area and art installation on the top floor as well as leisure facilities, conference rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant.

MoxyThen in June, details of another new hotel and multi-storey car park were unveiled, this time close to The Hub.

A 256 bedroom Marriott 'Moxy Hotel' is planned for the site, with Moxy currently boasting outlets in New York, London and Milan.

The rooms in the hotel are described as 'small but expertly designed' and the lobby is 'the place to be', according to travel website ShermansTravel.

We're also expecting a new easyHotel to open in Milton Keynes City Centre by mid-2019, with another 124 rooms planned for the city.

£8.7 million is set to be spent on the new budget hotel.

Away from the hotel scene, and plans for 'New City Place' were revealed by MKFM back in July aiming to replicate the success of The Hub.

New City Place will be located on Midsummer Boulevard between The Hub and the Central Rail Station, opposite Wetherspoons.

Enquiries are now being taken for the office space, on one side of the piazza, which will comprise of 16 floors and a total of 253,000 square feet of space.

200 'luxurious' apartments will fill the opposite side spread over 24 floors, with a full concierge reception on the first floor.

A rooftop restaurant over two floors will sit on top of the apartment block, giving stunning views over Milton Keynes from 28 floors above ground.

There will also be an open public viewing gallery from the 29th floor of the second block.

And we're expecting to see more work on the YMCA building in Milton Keynes next year, with the new building set to open in September 2019.

Their current site is on Saxon Gate in the City Centre and the charity has been working in Milton Keynes since 1980.

YMCAThe site is set to be redeveloped into 199 new homes for young people in need of housing.

In addition to the homes, there will also be shops, a café, meeting rooms, training rooms and a nursery coming to Central Milton Keynes.
