More hens need saving from slaughter in Milton Keynes this weekend

An organisation rehoming ex-commercial hens has said they "urgently" need help to ensure the slaughter wagon is sent away empty.

Fresh Start for Hens, a not-for-profit organisation that rehomes thousands of hens across the country, is appealing to residents in Milton Keynes.

In September, over 3,000 hens were rescued and rehomed. And this month, the organisation is looking to do just the same.

There are hens available for collection from Milton Keynes this Saturday (7/11). Fresh Start for Hens says that risk assessments have been written and social distancing will be followed.

Those who wish to reserve some hens must complete the registration form here. Photographs of the intended coop must be sent to the organisation, and a minimum donation of £2.50 per hen before the rehoming day.

Fresh Start For Hens says on their website: "We rehome hens to a diverse range of individuals wanting hens as pets or companion animals. Hens have begun their new lives in town, city and country gardens, allotments, schools and residential care homes.

"You don’t need to have a big garden to keep a few hens, they will be grateful for the additional years of freedom you can offer them and reward you with their entertaining antics and probably an egg or two. To this end, we do not rehome to people wishing to sell them on or for further commercial purposes."
