MKFM's Lia Christodoulou named as finalist for Women Leaders MK awards

MKFM Community Action Manager and Breakfast Presenter Lia Christodoulou has been named as a finalist in the Women Leaders Milton Keynes Awards for 2017.

The awards aim to recognise women living or working within the Milton Keynes postcode area who have contributed to the growth of their own particular sector and the ongoing success of Milton Keynes.

Lia has been nominated for the Community Impact Professional award, with her work across a variety of areas within the radio station contributing to her nomination.

Having worked with MKFM for a number of years, Lia was the driving force behind setting up our initial marketing campaign for small local businesses.

As part of her work in the community, Lia led the recent MKFM campaign to collect 50,000 tins of food for the Milton Keynes Food Bank. This involved not only co-ordinating the entire operation, but also spending a lot of time collecting tins herself from local people and businesses.

Lia went on to approach Tesco in Milton Keynes and worked with them in order to set up several pop-up Food Bank drop off areas in all the local Tesco stores where the MKFM team could collect tins and also raise awareness.

The passion towards achieving the target shown by Lia gave much inspiration to local people to get behind the campaign. It was announced on the MKFM Breakfast show on 4th July that the 50,000 target had been smashed with the final count being over 64,000 tins collected.

Jo Ronan and Gillian Watson from MKFM said: "Lia's spirit and passion is contagious. She does everything with a huge smile on her face and with even bigger energy. MKFM would not have the same community feel or energy without her. From listening to other local organisations and colleagues, her charity work within the community has been huge throughout the years and has not gone un-noticed."

Meanwhile, MKFM's Managing Director Darren Dorrington said: "I am delighted that our team nominated Lia for her outstanding contribution to the community. Lia never fails to surprise us and she was the main driver behind our challenge for the Food Bank. When we hit 64,000 tins, Lia was so emotional that our campaign had worked and families wouldn't go hungry over the school holidays. I am so pleased she's a finalist."

The finalists will now face interviews with the judging panel later this year.
