The MK50 Birthday Cake Collaboration has finally been formed and the first design of the City’s 50th Birthday cake has been designed!
The cake project has been organized and is being managed by local award winning cake decorator Karrin Simpson. She is working with the local council and 50th birthday project team to deliver a cake worthy of Milton Keynes. Joining Karrin’s team are Hayley McPherson from Milton Keynes Cupcakery in Wolverton, Laura Burnett a catering student at Milton Keynes College and Laura Garvin and Angela Webb who both work for John Lewis Magna park in their catering team. The team combines amateur bakers alongside of professional cake decorators but one thing they all have in common is huge pride and ambition to make Milton Keynes a cake worthy of it’s 50th birthday celebrations.
Represented within the final cake design are key buildings from the past and the present, famous landmarks that Milton Keynes is renowned for, including our concrete cows and our infamous roundabouts! The 6 foot by 4 foot cake board will show our green spaces and waterways, and famous pieces of artwork that can be found all around the city.
Karrin Simpson, who is project managing the event said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the knowledge and skills of our amateur cakers, and the ambition the group has to put on a real show stopper of a cake for the first celebrations to be held in January 2017! It is extremely exciting and I can’t wait to see the final design on display in Middleton Hall!”
Local caker Hayley who is taking part in the collaboration said: “I wanted to join this project as it is an honor to be a part of the team has makes Milton Keynes' 50th Birthday cake. It's a great opportunity for networking with other bakers in the area that are just as passionate and proud about the project as I am. I'm looking forward to all of our skills coming together to create a masterpiece for this special occasion.”
The completed cake will be on display at Middleton Hall on January 21st and 22nd 2017.
