MK Dons to face rivals AFC Wimbledon in FA Cup first round

Fans looking forward to important clash in the ‘tie of the round’.

MK Dons supporters have a brilliant FA Cup first round tie to look forward to after the club was handed an exciting clash against rivals AFC Wimbledon.

The draw, which was made live on BBC TV on Monday night, drew gasps and cheers from spectators as the Dons’ draw ball, number 30, came out of the ‘hat’ to secure a home fixture, immediately followed by AFC Wimbledon’s ball, number 2.

The two teams have been rivals since Wimbledon FC relocated to Milton Keynes in 2003, under then owner Pete Winkelman, and changed their name to MK Dons in 2004.

AFC Wimbledon formed as a ‘phoenix’ club (carrying on the previous team’s sporting activities) and have risen through the non-league ranks to become an established club in football’s League 2.

Elsewhere, another local derby was announced as Northampton Town were drawn against Kettering Town.

Games will be played over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd November.
