MK Dons sign new player

MK Dons are thrilled to have completed the signing of 24-year-old midfielder Jay Williams, who has joined on a permanent transfer from Sky Bet League One side Crawley Town.

The defensive midfielder becomes MK Dons' first signing of the January transfer window, subject to league and FA clearance.

Williams' move to Stadium MK comes off the back of 12 appearances in League One this season and sees him reunited with former manager Scott Lindsey.

The combative midfielder is well-versed in Lindsey's style of football, having played under him at Crawley since 2023.

Williams was instrumental in the Red Devils' promotion last season, playing 43 times and scoring in both legs of the play-off semi-finals against MK Dons.

The midfielder then played 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Crewe in the final at Wembley and was also lucky enough to earn his first international call-up for St. Kitts & Nevis last season.

Prior to his time in West Sussex, Williams had spent the last few seasons plying his trade in non-league with spells at AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Banbury United, as well as a short stint with Brackley Town.

Williams enjoyed a short spell with the Poppies in 2020 after moving from Northampton Town, where he started his career.

The Northampton-born player signed for the Cobblers when he was just 13, progressing through the youth ranks of the academy to make his first team debut aged 17.

When asked to describe himself as a player, Williams said: "I'm a pivot. I'm quite an aggressive presence in the middle of the park. But as much as I like a tackle, I enjoy opening up other teams and playing through the lines!"

On his new MK Dons team-mates, Williams said: "There's proper quality at this club right now, and I'm happy enough to do the dirty work and let them get on with scoring the goals!"

On adding Williams to his squad, Head Coach Scott Lindsey said: "Jay is a fantastic addition. I've worked with him before. He's a midfield general who will organise the team, bark at people, make tackles, get us up the pitch and press well - the stuff most players don't like doing! He trains and prepares like a demon. He's a leader and still very young. I think he'll be a great signing for MK Dons."
