MK Dons player Scott Fraser has highlighted the importance of players engaging in community activity.
In what has been a difficult time for community delivery, the football club has unfortunately been unable to get First Team players involved in face-to-face community activity since the start of the pandemic.
However, some of the players have been involved in various virtual projects – with the football club and the SET (Sport and Education Trust) – to ensure that community engagement has continued. One player in particular that has contributed to the community is Scott Fraser.
In addition to being instrumental on the pitch, Scott has been a great supporter of MK Dons' community work since joining the club in September 2020.
Firstly, Scott jumped at the opportunity to get involved in the SET’s ‘Mirror My Skill’ challenge on YouTube. As the first instalment of the ‘Mirror My Skill’ series, Scott demonstrated his ‘Cruyff Turn’ and challenged SET participants and Dons fans to give it a go at home.
Scott has also supported Medical Detection Dogs with their ‘Paint The Town Red’ campaign this February, designed to raise money and awareness for the work that they do. Scott donned a red shirt and posed for a photo with a promotional flyer to increase awareness of Medical Detection Dogs in the local community. He also supported Mind’s Virtual Matchday initiative by wearing the shirt and recording a video message.
“As footballers, we have an important role to play,” Fraser said. “We are ambassadors for the Club and for the community and it’s important we do what we can to give back and use our privileged positions in a positive manner.”
Along with many of his team-mates, Scott was also involved in the SET’s Virtual Disability Awards evening. He recorded a special message for some of the award winners, many of whom were MK Dons fans.
In addition, Scott was involved in the event to celebrate MK Dons' title sponsor Suzuki’s 2020 MotoGP World Championship success, where he – alongside Cameron Jerome and Warren O’Hora – was the first to ‘Don’ a special-edition home shirt to commemorate the achievement before the fixture against Oxford United.
“Scott has been a terrific addition to the Football Club, not just for his performances on the pitch but for his support off the pitch as well, engaging in the various community activities,” MK Dons manager Russell Martin said.
“We are very proud of our community engagement programme here at MK Dons and it’s fantastic to see players, particularly Scotty, getting involved and making a difference.”
Scott Fraser added: “Since arriving at the Club, I have enjoyed my time as an MK Dons player. I am looking forward to the time when fans can be back inside the stadium and we can do even more to engage with the people of Milton Keynes.”
