Milton Keynes women celebrated and food collected at next Meet of MK

Awards and charity campaign both recognised at monthly network gathering.

February’s popular Meet of MK networking event will celebrate the Women Leaders Awards while hoping to collect 5000 cans of food for charity.

The meeting, at Milton Keynes’ Unity Place, will celebrate women in business as the Women Leaders Awards marks its 10th anniversary this year. The awards, which spotlight gender equality and diversity across business, is one of several honours supported by MOMK promoters MKFM in 2025.

The radio, news and business networking organisation is this year backing seven important awards, recognising people and businesses across Milton Keynes, along with their achievements.

The evening event, on 27th February, will also be an opportunity for more than 200 delegates to donate food items for the MKFM Food Bank. Some of the cans and packets of food collected will be used to help feed local children who will be without free school meals over this summer’s school holidays.

Companies can bring food, pledge to supply it later or raise cash and donate that, which will be used to buy provisions. A cheque for £300, for example, would amount to 1000 cans of food.

“Women Leaders is thrilled to be celebrating its 10 year anniversary with MKFM at this month’s Meet of  MK and we are looking forward to catching up with supporters, friends and finalists from the last decade,” said Dr Julie Mills, chair, Women Leaders. “And the fact that we can also bring our full support to get behind MK Food Bank makes it even more meaningful.”

“We are so grateful to MKFM for supporting MK Food Bank at this month’s Meet of MK,” said Louisa Hobbs, operations manager, MK Food Bank.

“Nearly five years on from the start of the Covid pandemic, demand for our emergency and longer-term food support services remains at an all-time high. Last year we supported around 12,000 people in Milton Keynes – that’s 750 more than in the previous year – all of whom were struggling to pay for basic essentials such as food, utilities and rent.

“Our food parcels and top-up shops provide a real lifeline, and we are only able to do this thanks to the generous donations of the local community. We have so many generous friends and supporters at MKFM, Women’s Leaders and within the Milton Keynes business community and are hoping that this opportunity will introduce us to many more of you who will feel inspired to support the most vulnerable in our city.”

“As well as celebrating Women Leaders, we want to continue to do something that can make a real difference to our listeners,” said Jo Ronan, acting director, MKFM.

“Helping families in need to eat well is important to us and knowing that some children rely on their free school meals during the summer made us want to help with this Food Bank even more. I am sure generous companies and individuals across the Milton Keynes business community will help us.”
