Milton Keynes woman launches Special Educational Needs after-school club

A Milton Keynes resident has launched a much-needed Special Educational Needs (SEN) after-school club, offering vital support to children and their families in the local community.

Vicki Southall, founder of Vi-KARE, a respite company, started the initiative in April 2023 to provide assistance to SEN children, young adults, and their families. After receiving overwhelming requests for help, Vicki realised she needed to expand her services beyond individual support. During the summer, she organised indoor and outdoor sessions, which were met with great enthusiasm.

“The summer sessions went well, and it made me realise how little support is available for these families,” Vicki said. “So, I decided to start two after-school clubs to accommodate as many families as I can.”

The first Vi-KARE after-school club was launched last Friday (September 13). The club offers a variety of activities including toys, games, puzzles, sensory activities, arts and crafts, Lego blocks, and more. There will also be themed sessions throughout the year.

“This will be a great place for children and their carers to come during the winter months, especially since it's hard to find places that cater to their needs during cold weather and school holidays,” Vicki added.

The after-school club runs every Friday from 3pm to 6pm at Shenley Brook End Village Hall, Milton Keynes. Sessions are £15 per person, and anyone interested in learning more can contact Vicki at 07555036759.
