Milton Keynes shops selling alcohol and vapes to underage children

Police neighbourhood teams target illegal sales to youngsters.

Police and council officials have cracked down on shops selling alcohol and vapes to underage customers in a special operation today.

Thames Valley police central city Neighbourhood Team officers joined forces with Licensing and MK City Council Trading Standards today for a proactive operation across MK, targeting illegal sales of alcohol and vapes to under-18s.

From six shops investigated, they discovered two that sold alcohol to a child, two that sold a vape to a child and only two that asked for ID and refused the sale.

“That’s four out of six failing the test – a surprisingly high number,” said a police spokesperson. “One shop has now sold alcohol to a child twice. Enforcement action is coming.”

The team has handed out Fixed Penalty Notices, given advice to the businesses and plan follow-up checks and staff training.

“We carry out these operations regularly to make sure local premises stick to the rules and to help keep our young people and communities safe,” said the spokesperson.
