The Parks Trust’s accessible events dial up a notch for 2025!
As we shake off the cobwebs and head into a brand-new year, there are plenty of activities to enjoy across the city’s parks. This year, The Parks Trust are pleased to announce many new accessible events and activities that enable more people to enjoy local green spaces.
- Inclusive Strolls – these are gentle guided walks designed for all abilities and led by The Parks Trust staff and volunteers who have participated in disability awareness and sighted guide training. Attendees are advised to request adjustments in advance so staff can best support on the day. Walks often have toilet facilities and accessible parking.
- Wheelchair Rambles – new for 2025, these are community-led (i.e. by wheelchair users) and are designed to empower wheelchair users to get out and about and explore the parks. The rambles are supported by The Parks Trust staff and volunteers and carers/assistants are welcome.
- Walking Festival: Wheelchair Ramble – in partnership with the Disabled Ramblers (a national organisation), The Parks Trust is hosting a wheelchair-friendly ramble through the Ouzel Valley. This will be their first collaboration with the Disabled Ramblers and they will be hosting a regional ramble for their network in 2026.
- BSL Guided Walks – BSL interpretation will be available for selected walks including at Campbell Park and Great Linford Manor Park.
- Parkland Plays – these are SEN-friendly and there is a sensory area for a calmer play experience, and some sessions have toilets.
- Event organisers who use The Parks Trust's green spaces have also been busy improving the accessibility of their events. Particularly good for those with accessibility needs are MK Pride and MK International Festival.
Ian Joyce, Access Ambassador for The Parks Trust says “As an Access Ambassador and events volunteer, I am delighted to support the Trust’s inclusive events programme for 2025. The Trust is working hard to ensure their activities enable everyone to access the wellbeing benefits of the great outdoors.”
