A dedicated Milton Keynes nurse has completed the Great North Run (13 miles) to raise crucial funds for the Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes Hospital.

Jean Vaughan, a nurse at MK Hospital, successfully completed the 13-mile half-marathon on Sunday, aiming to raise £500 to support MK Hospital’s cancer patients.

The Great North Run, held annually in the northeast of England, is renowned as one of the largest half-marathons in the world. The route begins in Newcastle upon Tyne and finishes in South Shields, covering 13.1 miles (21.1 km). Around 57,000 runners participate each year, making the event not just a physical challenge but a celebration of community spirit and charity.

Reflecting on her motivation, she said, "Every shift I am deeply impressed and humbled by the courage, dignity, and determination of our patients as they negotiate a barrage of challenges associated with the treatments to enable them to live their best lives for as long as possible."

Jean also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the hospital staff, saying, “Staff of many disciplines work together with patients and their loved ones to ease the journey in any way possible. Of course, this extends beyond statutory clinical services and includes volunteers serving refreshments and keeping the patients company during hours of treatments."
