Earlier this week, two Milton Keynes MPs met with Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to discuss the future of the long-awaited new women’s and children’s units at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Chris Curtis MP (Milton Keynes North) and Emily Darlington MP (Milton Keynes Central), have this week met with Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP, to discuss the future of the long-awaited new women’s and children’s units at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Plans for a Milton Keynes Women and Children’s Hospital had first been proposed as a 2019 manifesto commitment by the Conservative Party when Boris Johnson was elected promising 40 new hospitals across the country. Like many of those promised new hospitals, the Milton Keynes site was not started in the 5 years that followed.

While Labour had pledged to pick the project back up, it was quickly discovered after the election that the funding needed for the hospital had never actually been assigned by the outgoing Conservatives, leaving its future uncertain. Despite the immense financial pressures the new Labour Government faces, our city’s MPs are making the case that this is project Milton Keynes needs.

Emily Darlington MP said, “The legacy of the Conservatives is that we have the longest gynaecology waiting times in the country, exacerbating the health inequalities that women already face. Their destruction didn’t end when they were voted out - their incompetence has left a complete mess that continues to impact our city.”

Chris Curtis MP concluded, “We know how important this is to our city. We will keep making the case, keep standing up for MK, and keep fighting for our residents. Everyone in Milton Keynes deserves access to good healthcare - especially our children.”
