Lord Lieutenant and city’s MP attend annual historic event.
Milton Keynes Mayor Marie Bradburn was among the special guests invited to the annual Pancake Race in Olney today.
The Mayor was joined by Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire Countess Howe, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire Kurshida Mirza, MK North MP Chris Curtis and Debbie Whitworth, Olney Mayor, to watch the support pancake races, run by local schoolchildren.
The historic main race is thought to have first been run in 1445. The event in its current form started in 1948 and two years later it became an international race, with the US town of Liberal, Kansas, running their own course on the same day, and comparing times.
This year’s Olney race was won by past victor Eloise Kramer. Linda Church came second with Lupe Morera and Rebecca Budd tying for third place. All women racers must work or live in Olney to qualify.
