Research by charity Shelter has estimated that one in 94 people in Milton Keynes is now homeless.
More than 274,000 people are homeless in England right now, including 126,000 children, according to new research published by homeless charity Shelter.
The charity's analysis of official rough-sleeping and temporary accommodation figures shows that one in every 206 people in England are currently without a home with 2,700 people are sleeping rough on any given night.
Outside of London, Luton has been named the worst with the highest rates of homelessness.
The research shows that Milton Keynes has the fourth highest with one in 94 people being homeless. This is an estimate of the number of people (adults plus children) who live in households which have been found to be homeless and are living in local authority arranged temporary accommodation on a given day.
2,859 are said to be homeless and living in TA arranged by the council.
Polly Neate, chief executive of Shelter, said: “We predicted the pandemic would trigger a rising tide of evictions and our services are starting to see the reality of this now. We’re flooded with calls from families and people of all ages who are homeless or on the verge of losing their home.”
18 people in Milton Keynes are estimated to be on the streets on a given night.
In an interview with MKFM, The Leader of Milton Keynes Council, Peter Marland, discussed rough sleepers in Milton Keynes.
He said: "Any rough sleeper can access emergency accommodation and there is a significant amount of money going into the budget to support the opening of a hostel type provision and the bus station will be opening permanent beds there for emergency accommodation."
The YMCA in Milton Keynes is also available to help younger homeless people. He continued: "The situation is that the people who are sleeping rough have far more complex issues than being homeless.
"I can tell you now, that our rough sleeping team, with MyMiltonKeynes, we know these people individually. We will know their needs and they would have been offered help. Often, its a progress regress situation."
He said: "I can promise that more and less every single person sleeping rough, our homeless team will know them."
