The Monologue Project with Boni Adeliyi is a two-week intensive workshop for eight young people, exploring and highlighting narratives from Black History through theatre and spoken word.
Addressing the lack of Black History within traditional educational settings, this project aims to give voice to the stories of 8 Black historical figures through the creation of original monologues written and performed by the young people involved.
The Monologue Project invites eight young black people age 16-19, who have an invested interest in drama as an area that they would like to pursue, to join actor and activist Boni Adeliyi alongside other industry professionals to research, write and perform monologues based on key historical figures.
The workshops also offer the opportunity to work directly under the mentorship of multidisciplinary artist Koko Brown who has performed with the National Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith and the Traverse theatre (Edinburgh), and actor Fode Simbo who has on stage and on screen credits including Summer of Rockets, Vigil and Little Women (BBC).
Boni Adeliyi is an actor currently finishing her Second Year at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Last summer she organised the BLM protest in Milton Keynes and one of her goals since then has been to create opportunities for young black people to write and tell stories that they see themselves and their personal and ancestral histories in. The Monologue Project is that goal coming to life.
