Milton Keynes education awards launched at MOMK

Teacher recognition, charity events and local initiatives all at MK network gathering.

An important awards scheme that recognises Milton Keynes’ education sector, was launched to the city’s business community at this week’s Meet of MK networking meeting.

The Milton Keynes Education Awards was formed three years ago after education and business experts decided that, in such a thriving and diverse economy, the city hadn’t recognised the education segment.

This year’s Education Awards will take place on 11th July at MK’s Leonardo Hotel, when a cross-section of disciplines from the education sector will be inspected, judged and awarded honours.

The Meet of MK gathering, in the city’s Unity Place, was a fitting arena to kick-start the education honours scheme. The awards are backed by business leaders, and organisers say the honours reinforce the ethos that: ‘business needs education and education needs business’.

“Education is really important to me,” said Ben Thomas, founder, Milton Keynes Education Awards. “My mum was a schoolteacher for 30 years, so I got to see first-hand how hard teachers work.

“It probably took the pandemic for the nation to really appreciate the hard work that educators do, and I use ‘educators’ because non-teaching staff should be acknowledged for playing a key role to complement the hard work of teachers.

“That is our ‘why’, and I hope it has encouraged you to enter as many of the categories as possible. This is your chance to put your school or colleagues forward for the recognition they deserve.”

The MOMK night included presentations from the Parks Trust, promoters AEG and the Ride High charity, whose Helen Dixon gave details of their Cycling Festival at Furzton Lake on 29th June, to raise funds for work supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

MKFM’s ‘The Meet of MK’ gathers every month at an exciting Milton Keynes venue. For more details or to book tickets, visit: www.mkfm.com/events/mkfms-meet-of-mk.
