Milton Keynes dad’s charity football walk

Every London ground visited in four-day marathon starting at MK Dons.

A devastated father is planning a mammoth walk to London from Milton Keynes, taking in every one of the capital’s football clubs, to raise funds for the cancer charity that helped him and his family.

Andrew Green, whose son Alexander has twice been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscle tissue, says he wants to raise the profile of the charity that supported him and partner Yvonne through the last three years.

“Alexander was diagnosed in March 2022 and went through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery,” says claims manager Andrew. “He was in remission for a year and then last April it came back, and he had to have more chemo and surgery where he underwent skin grafts to the side of his face.”

During that terrible time Andrew and Yvonne were supported by the charity Young Lives vs Cancer and it’s that organisation that Andrew wants to raise funds for with his 132 mile walk in four days. He has set himself a target of £10,000.

Starting at Stadium MK on 2nd May he will walk to Watford and then, over the Bank Holiday weekend, will visit every Premier League, Football League and National League club that is based in London, plus Wembley Stadium.

“It’s 20 grounds,” says Andrew. “I have looked at a map and know what route I will be doing, starting at MK Dons and finishing at Tottenham. I’ve been training and doing 16 mile walks to get in shape. The route works out about 26 miles a day to get to the 132 miles over four days.”

The former Spurs season ticket holder, who lives in Emerson Valley, goes to Dons home games regularly with Alexander.

“It’s fitting that it all starts at my son’s hometown club and finishes at the club which we both support so much, Spurs,” he added.

“I just want raise as much money as I can for the charity. It means a lot to us. The bit that hurt me was the uncertainty, just not knowing what to do, or to find out if it has spread. They make life easy for you because they reassure you, they are there for support when you are at the hospital. It’s a really good charity.”
