A local Councillor has said he will work with MK’s thriving Indian community to find a new site for a proposed Hindu temple.
It comes after a planning application for a Hindu temple in Tattenhoe was turned down at an MK Council Democratic Control Committee (DCC) meeting on 5 November.
The site had been found by the committee to be inappropriate for a temple due to concerns over increased traffic and gridlock and a design out of keeping with the local area with a shipping-container based construction being proposed.
The application received three votes in favour, four against and three abstentions so planning permission was refused.
Cllr James Lancaster, a Tattenhoe ward councillor and local community champion, Manish Verma, have now promised to work hand-in-hand with the Indian community to find a new site for the Hindu temple, which they state would “be a welcome addition to Milton Keynes.”
Cllr James Lancaster, said: “I have the utmost respect for those that put in the application seeking to build a new Hindu temple in Milton Keynes and I recognise the hard work they put in to try and achieve this."
"But to make this a success, we need to find a site that is sensible and achieves broad community support."
"A Hindu temple would be a welcome and vital addition to Milton Keynes, allowing our Hindu residents a better opportunity to worship locally."
"Now planning permission has been refused. I will be doing everything I can to help find a new site for a temple elsewhere in MK.”
