Milton Keynes Council has encouraged all eligible residents to book an appointment as soon as possible before vaccine supplies start to decline in the coming weeks.
Milton Keynes' public health team is urging all people in the first priority groups to come forward without delay if they haven’t yet booked their vaccination.
Those eligible include people aged 50 or over, carers and healthcare workers, care home residents, people with learning disabilities, and people who are clinically or extremely vulnerable.
The Council is driving as many people as possible to get their first dose as from the beginning of next week (29/03) fewer first doses will be available. This is because more supplies will be used to vaccinate people who are due their second dose.
According to a recent survey conducted by the Council, some locals are hesitant to get vaccinated due to their concerns about the vaccine's safety and short development time.
Furthermore, recent vaccination uptake within the initial cohorts has been comparatively lower among Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi residents - though this is a nationwide issue and not solely unique to Milton Keynes.
Milton Keynes' Director of Public Health, Vicky Head, assured residents that there was nothing to worry about as she said: "We want to do everything we can to reassure local people that the vaccines are safe and have been tested on large numbers of people.
"Safety standards have not been cut in their development, it’s more that we have been fortunate to harness very significant global funding and collective scientific endeavour, with lots of volunteers coming forward to take part in trials, which has sped up the process enormously.
"If you have serious concerns, please speak to your GP who will want to spare the time to help you make the best decision for your health and for the health of those around you. Otherwise please book your slot without delay."
