Milton Keynes Council receives £251k to support low-income families during Easter holiday

Milton Keynes Council will receive £251,068 in Government funding to support low-income families over the Easter holidays.

This extra money is part of the Covid Winter Grant Scheme which has been extended over Easter, with 80% of funds ring-fenced to be spent on food, energy and water bills, and 20% available for other associated essential costs.

The initial scheme saw Milton Keynes provided with £722k to support vulnerable children and families between December and the end of March.

Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “I’m delighted the Government is providing an extra £251,000 for low-income families over Easter – we know how difficult the pandemic has been for families and this support will be vital.

“This is part of the Conservative Government’s long-term plan to tackle poor health, hunger and education.”

Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, added: “This funding from the Government will go a long way in helping low-income families in Milton Keynes pay for food, energy and water.

“I hope the MK Council will spend this money as families will be dependent upon this after being hit by the pandemic.”
