Milton Keynes Council appoint new Chief Executive

Michael Bracey, Milton Keynes Council’s Corporate Director for People has been appointed as their new Chief Executive following a national recruitment process.

As Corporate Director, Mr Bracey was responsible for all children’s services and adult social services, including educational improvement, children in care, fostering and adoption, adult safeguarding, mental health services, and much more.

He joined Milton Keynes Council in 2009 and has been the council’s Acting Chief Executive since July.

Mr Bracey has previously worked within the voluntary sector, for the NHS and Ofsted and spent time on secondment to the government prior to taking up his role at Milton Keynes Council.

The recruitment process involved more than 40 councillors and 22 representatives from the Council's partner organisations. As is usual practice, the appointment is subject to formal ratification at a Full Council meeting, due to take place on 28th November.

Speaking on his appointment, Michael Bracey said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to serve the people of Milton Keynes as Chief Executive of MKC."

"I’m proud to call MK home and am looking forward to working with the community to make it an even better place."

Councillor Pete Marland, Council Leader and Labour Group Leader, chaired the cross-party party recruitment panel.

He said: “Milton Keynes is at a critical point in our evolution.  Getting the right Chief Executive to take the council and the city forward was critical, and I am sure that Michael will build on our solid foundations and take us to the next level over the coming years.”

Cllr Alex Walker, Conservative Group Leader, commented: “Michael’s outstanding qualities will help us drive both Milton Keynes and the council forward."

"I’m looking forward to working with him to achieve our big ambitions and better serve the people of MK.”

Cllr Douglas McCall, Liberal Democrat Group Leader, also commented: “I am delighted that Michael Bracey has been chosen as our new Chief Executive."

"Michael has a track record of managing transformational change and for managing the council’s largest budget in this time of austerity.”
