Milton Keynes Council have allocated an extra £130,000 to fix more potholes

The money has been allocated following the wet winter weather, with 13,000 potholes being fixed so far this year.

Milton Keynes Council is committed to keeping up the high level of repairs by allocating an extra £130,000 for pothole repairs in Milton Keynes over the coming year, in addition to the £1.5m spent this year.

An extra £30,000 will be made immediately available to keep on top of any increase in pothole repairs needed following the wet weather in December and January.

An additional £100,000 is included in the council’s 2020/21 budget proposal to keep Milton Keynes’ roads in good shape for road users.

Councillor Emily Darlington, Cabinet Member for Highways said: “Labour-led MK Council is committed to keeping up the good work that’s been done on pothole repairs over the last year and this extra funding will ensure that the high standards are maintained.

“By changing the criteria for fixing potholes and reducing the size they need to be before they’re fixed we’ve been successful in repairing more reported potholes. I’m delighted to see this extra funding and the continued commitment to Milton Keynes’ highways.

“We can never fix every pothole, but we can fix more, we can fix them quicker and we can make sure the repair is good quality and this extra funding, on top of what we are already doing, will mean we continue to get the basics right.”
