Milton Keynes City Council awards Serco Leisure 16-month lease to operate Bletchley Leisure Centre

Following a request for proposals, Serco Leisure and its partner, More Leisure Community Trust, have been appointed to operate Bletchley Leisure Centre, with a new 16-month lease due to start on November 1.

Serco Leisure and More Leisure Community Trust (MLCT) will take over from the previous operator, InspireAll, who has managed the centre since 2009. This contract expires at the end of October.

This is a short-term arrangement while the city council considers options for the long-term operation of its leisure facilities. As part of the new agreement, Serco Leisure will invest in new fitness equipment in the gym.

Simon Lane, Managing Director for Serco Leisure, said, “We look forward to the beginning of this exciting partnership with Milton Keynes City Council. Our vision at Serco Leisure is to help our customers make more of every day. From November 1st 2024, we will be bringing those words to life for the thousands of people who use this excellent, multi-purpose facility.”

Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, Cllr Mick Legg said, “This contract means we can continue to provide residents with facilities they enjoy and value while expanding the services at Bletchley Leisure Centre to offer new ways to stay active and healthy.”

Brian Taylor, Chair of MLCT added, “We are delighted to be bringing Bletchley Leisure Centre into the More Leisure family, as we look ahead to November and the opportunity to support the local community towards more active, healthier lifestyles.”

Serco Leisure is the current UK Pool & Spa Water Leisure Operator of the Year. A title they have won for five out of the last six years. In 2021, they were named ukactive’s Outstanding Organisation of the Year.

Serco Leisure currently operates 55 facilities, including community leisure centres, plus the Sport England national sports centres, Bisham Abbey and Lillieshall, as well as Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympic movement.
