Milton Keynes charity welcomes The Countess Howe, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire

This week, The Countess Howe, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire visited SIEVEMK Gateway to learn more about the educational support the charity provides to young people across MK.

On Tuesday 23 April The Countess Howe received a tour of SIEVEMK Gateway, an educational charity which offers tutoring services and mentoring programmes to young people across the city.

Lady Howe was met by the charity’s CEO (Tony Oyakhire), Project Director (Claire Hodgskiss), and several of the tutors.

The charity was delighted to showcase some of their community outreach projects which help young people to realise their full potential.

SIEVEMK Gateway was set up in 2007 to address the problem of educational underachievement among young people, particularly those of black and minority ethnic (BAME) descent, and is run by a small team, including several volunteers.

SIEVEMK Gateway, CEO, Tony Oyakhire, said: “It was great to welcome Lady Howe to SIEVEMK Gateway and provide her with more of an insight into the support we offer to young people across the city. We inspire all of our young people to help them to reach their full potential, no matter what their background.”

Lady Howe, added: “It was wonderful to visit SIEVEMK Gateway and learn more about the incredible work they do transforming young lives through education , and I wish them well with their ambitious new building project.”

The charity, which is located within The Point in the city, is raising funds to build a new learning and enterprise centre. To support this project please visit their JustGiving website: https://www.justgiving.com/sievemkgateway
