Milton Keynes cancer patient presents cheque to MK Hospital Charity in honour of late wife

A Milton Keynes patient, currently receiving care at MK Cancer Centre, has presented a cheque to Milton Keynes Hospital Charity in memory of his late wife.

Norman has been receiving care from Milton Keynes Cancer Centre since 2023. Sadly, in April this year, his wife, Jill, passed away suddenly.

To show his gratitude for the care given and to honour Jill’s memory, Norman asked those attending Jill’s funeral to make a donation to Milton Keynes Hospital Charity rather than bringing flowers.

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity has raised over £1 million towards the state-of-the-art Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH), which opened just before the pandemic hit in March 2020. This funded patient bedrooms, comfortable chemotherapy chairs, a new multi-disciplinary team (MDT) room, thriving gardens, iPads for patients, and special medical equipment.

Last week staff at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity had the pleasure of meeting Norman and his son Colin, who visited to present a cheque of £340 to Michelle Michele, a cancer clinical nurse specialist (CNS), and MK Hospital Charity in memory of Jill.

In a heart-warming post about Norman, MK Hospital Charity wrote, “We are forever thankful to those who give back, even through their darkest moments, to support patients, families, and #TeamMKUH staff.”

Michelle Michele, Cancer CNS, told MKFM, “We are deeply moved by Norman's generous donation to our Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This heartfelt contribution, made in memory of his late wife Jill from the funeral service, embodies the spirit of giving back even in the face of personal loss.”

Michelle continued, “Charitable donations to Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, like Norman's, play a crucial role in supporting our patients, their families, and our dedicated staff. They help us continue to provide exceptional care and comfort during challenging times. We extend our gratitude to all who choose to donate to our hospital charity, big or small, every donation goes towards make a lasting impact on our community."
