Milton Keynes-based charity CEO to complete 30-mile bike ride

This week, the CEO of a Milton Keynes-based charity will cycle 30 miles to raise money for Sieve MK Gateway’s new learning and enterprise centre.

On Tuesday, August 20, Tony Oyakhire will set off on a 3-mile bike ride from Milton Keynes to Wotton in Bedford.

Starting at The Windmill in New Bradwell, Tony will be pedalling across the city and onto country roads through Hanslope and Roade to reach Wootton.

To complete the 30-mile round trip, the Sieve MK Gateway CEO will then be cycling back towards the city finishing off where he started out.

SMK Gateway is the Mayor of Milton Keynes’ chosen charity for the year and is currently located within The Point.

It was founded in 2007 to address the problem of educational underachievement among young people, particularly BAME students.

The charity which is run by a small team, as well as up to 10 volunteers, needs a new premises to continue to meet demand from students and to serve the city’s growing population.

To help raise funds for the new centre, Mayor Bradburn encouraged Sieve MK Gateway to fundraise by joining her and the local cycling group – U3a Freewheelers on the bike ride.

The charity hopes to raise over £500, so far, they have reached over half of their target.

SMK Gateway, CEO, Tony Oyakhire, said, “The number of students seeking our help is growing each year and in order to improve the support we offer to local children and young people we want to build a purpose-built community centre in Milton Keynes. I hope that this will be a starting point for us in moving one step closer to creating our dream environment.”

Mayor Marie Bradburn, added, “SIEVEMK Gateway offer excellent services to children and young people and their families across the city, they work to inspire local students to reach their full potential no matter what their background. Please support them if you can!”

The project to build a new learning and enterprise centre began in 2017 and the charity is hoping to relocate to the North of the city where the new building will provide space for tuition and exams, training suites, meeting rooms, studio space, and a community café.
