Fewest collisions, good roads and competitive fuel prices highlighted.
Milton Keyes has been listed as one of the best locations in the UK for new and inexperienced drivers to gain confidence behind the wheel.
As hundreds of new drivers take to the roads in the New Year, latest research lists Milton Keynes in fourth place across the whole country, as one of the safest and nicest places to get to grips with cars and traffic. The findings, from L-driver insurer Tempcover, puts the city behind only Sheffield, Sunderland and Doncaster among the greatest places to find your way as a new motorist.
Milton Keynes ranked fourth with factors including having 86% of its A-roads and motorways in ‘good’ condition, having an average of just eight rainy days per month, and recording 199 collisions per billion motor vehicle miles - top-ranking Sheffield had 471 collisions in this part of the research.
Other areas investigated were traffic levels, collisions blamed on inexperience, quality of B and C-roads and fuel prices, which help to make driving more affordable for new motorists. Milton Keynes finished favourably in most of these areas of research.
“Passing your driving test is a significant milestone,” says Claire Wills-Mckissick, of Tempcover. “While some new drivers feel confident and ready to hit the road, others may need more time to develop their skills and confidence behind the wheel.
“Factors like affordable petrol prices, well-maintained roads and fewer rainy days all contribute to building new drivers' confidence, making it easier for them to transition with fewer challenges.”
