Meet of MK delegates praise event’s importance and effectiveness

Networking meeting brings Milton Keynes people and businesses together, say guests.

Invited guests at last week’s Meet of MK have praised the networking event, saying it’s hugely successful in bringing local people, groups and businesses together in one room.

February’s Meet of MK, in Milton Keynes’ Unity Place, was chosen as the host of at least three important initiatives – the Women Leaders’ Awards, MK Food Bank campaign and International Women’s Day.

Promoters MKFM is this year backing seven important awards, recognising people and businesses across Milton Keynes, along with their achievements, and the latest Meet of MK was an ideal way of showcasing that too.

As well as celebrating 10 years of the Women Leaders movement, the evening event was also helping MK Food Bank to collect 5000 cans of food for charity. Some of the cans and packets of food collected will be used to help feed local children who will be without free school meals over this summer’s school holidays.

Separately, Milton Keynes’ International Women’s Day was also highlighted to the 200 delegates. The event, taking place on Friday 7th March at Wolverton’s Ridgeway Centre, will feature key speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.

Organisers of the three different initiatives praised Meet of MK for its ability to bring people and organisations together.

“We are celebrating 10 years of Women Leaders and launching our 2025 awards,” said Dr Julie Mills, chair, Women Leaders' Awards. “Ten years ago, when you went to a business networking event it was not unusual to be the only woman there.

“I went to one event and the host said ‘good evening gentlemen and Julie’. But now, I’m looking around the room tonight, at the amazing, diverse group of people there is here.”

“We are here to raise awareness,” said Louisa Hobbs, operations manager, MK Food Bank. “This event is brilliant. We know loads of suppliers but there are a lot more here than we knew. MKFM is always a massive supporter and everything we do they get behind.”

“We came here to raise the profile of our event next week (Friday),” said Heidi Thomas, co-founder and committee member, Women in Enterprise, which is this year raising money for MK Community Federation Women’s Fund.

The next Meet of MK is on Thursday 27th March in the Sky Lounge, Unity Place, Milton Keynes.
