Local MPs continue push for Milton Keynes city status with letter to Minister Steve Barclay

Milton Keynes MPs Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart have continued their push for MK to receive city status by writing to Cabinet Office Minister Steve Barclay.

Last year, following the Government announcement of a city status competition for Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 Ben and Iain called on Milton Keynes Council to put forward a bid.

Milton Keynes Council bought together more than 50 knowledgeable people and organisations to develop the bid, which was submitted back in December.

The MPs both contributed to the Council’s application to the competition which has their full backing and have now sent a joint letter to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster outlining the reasons Milton Keynes should become a city.

Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “I’m so proud to be the Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes North and our ‘new city’ deserves to finally become an official city.
