Residents in Newton Leys managed to collect 29 bags of litter during a recent Community Litter Pick.
The Community Litter Pick, organised by St Joseph’s in Newton Leys, has received praise from Bletchley and Fenny Town Council.
They wrote: "Please remember to take any rubbish back home with you or bin it.
"Tiny wrappers and bottle caps all add up to huge amounts of waste. Littering causes so much harm to our local environment and wildlife so we must all do what we can to look after our local area.
"A big thank you and well done to all involved in this Community Litter Pick!"
Last month, MK Council told residents that they have a range of litter picking kits available for Community Litter Picks to be arranged.
These kits can be picked up from local parish councils, making it easier and more convenient to access. You can check the Litter Pick Holders list here.
Yesterday (4/3), MKFM reported that another local litter pick event had gained huge momentum. Local families joined Shanika Mahendran, Loughton & Shenley Labour Community Campaigner, and Progressive Alliance councillors for a litter pick in Grange Farm on Saturday 19th February, collecting around 15 bags of rubbish from the estate.
Shanika said: “The community litter picks stemmed from a conversation with residents, about myself and ward councillor Zoe Nolan seeing how we could positively contribute to the ward. I didn’t expect that they’d be as successful as this so early on, and I’m thrilled to see so many families getting involved.”
If you set up a community litter pick, don't forget to photograph your event and send images to communications@milton-keynes.gov.uk to share on MK Council social media!
