The green space in Kingsmead could be used as an access road.
The Tattenhoe Ward Conservatives are fighting to save some green space in Kingsmead, Milton Keynes, from being turned into a through road in the development of Shenley Park.
The Conservatives are working on submitting a village green application in a bid to protect the Kingsmead Green.
James Lancaster, Conservative Councillor for the Tattenhoe Ward, told MKFM "Me and the team at Tattenhoe Ward Conservatives, Manish Verma and Shazna Muzammil are working hard to look into protection of the Green space here at Kingsmead. We wish to look into applying for the green to protected in a Village Green Application.
"We are looking into seeing if this is possible with the road projected to be a through road. We are aiming to persuade for the through road to be down the other side towards the existing Shenley Road, nearer to Tattenhoe Park, rather than through the heartland of a community area that is used by many of the residents close by and beyond.
"To apply for village green status, evidence it has been used for over 20 years as a green Spaced area for the community is needed. So there is a small, but fighting chance. We will do all we can to try and succeed in this."
Plans for Shenley Park include an area of land next to Oxley Park and Kingsmead, but located in Buckinghamshire Council’s boundaries. Over 1,800 new homes could potentially be built.
Cllr James Lancaster is calling on residents to step up and help protect the green by submitting photos and write ups on how long they have lived in the area and how the green is utilised.
These images and write ups can be sent to James.Lancaster@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
