MKFM has released details of the Milton Keynes-based awards it is supporting as part of its continual support of local businesses and organisations.

The city’s radio station and business networking organisation has put local recognition of people, commerce and initiatives at its heart.

As an award winning city, Milton Keynes is anxious to promote awards schemes within its local area. And with so many hard-working and successful people, businesses, organisations and schemes, there’s a great and varied array of honours being entered, judged and awarded across the city every year.

MKFM has always backed great causes including local awards schemes, and this year is no exception. For 2025 MKFM will be promoting seven excellent awards, through promotion, awareness raising and financial support.

“It’s almost inevitable that a vibrant city like Milton Keynes will produce some wonderful people, businesses and services that deserve recognition,” says Jo Ronan, acting director, MKFM.

“That’s why we are so pleased and proud to add our support to some of the most amazing award schemes going in this great city. We have chosen a wide range of honours to support this year, including children’s recognition, business, science, education and inspirational achievements.”

The list of brilliant awards supported and backed by MKFM this year includes:

MK Education Awards – Milton Keynes has a vibrant, leading education sector enabling schools and teachers to provide children across the city with the learning experiences they need. But these awards don’t just highlight teaching staff and schools – they also celebrate personnel and teams, from headteachers and school business managers to individuals passing on specialist knowledge and those working with special needs children. Any individual or school in education in Milton Keynes can enter the awards.

MK Business Achievement Awards – These important honours highlight Milton Keynes’ standing as a hub for technology, finance, logistics and professional services. This year’s MKBAA will continue to encourage the bridging of the skills gap across the region, ensuring Milton Keynes remains one of the UK's most productive and innovative cities. The awards panel will look at ways in which access to education, skills and training has been improved, particularly within the city's technology and digital industries. Any organisation or individual with an MK postcode can enter.

MK Inspiration Awards – Making a difference is the theme of these popular awards, which have been running for eight successful years. And often, it’s the person you won’t have heard of that is winning the prize – the unsung heroes and the trailblazers of MK that deserve recognition for their work. Looking for people and organisations that have influenced others, the awards celebrate real difference, from community champions to creative talents. More than 450 people who motivate and inspire others across the city, are nominated each year. Who will win this time?

Women Leaders Awards – 2025 marks this awards scheme’s 10th anniversary and it’s a time for the honours’ organisers to reflect on how far they have come. What started as a local initiative to highlight individual achievements of women in Milton Keynes’ community has become so much more than that. The awards shine a light on sex equality, they demand change, and they encourage diversity across all levels of leadership and throughout the business community. The awards retain their importance, say organisers, because the fight for equality is still there.

SME Awards – Another awards scheme that has been going for nearly a decade, the SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business Awards have had an exciting nine years in operation. Designed to raise the profile of hardworking and inventive small and medium enterprises (SMEs) locally, the awards are sought after accolades for local businessmen and women. SMEs are businesses with fewer than 250 people. They are recognized for driving innovation in the city, which makes rewarding the people who enter them so special.

Mayor’s Awards – As the name suggests, the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Marie Bradburn gets behind these important honours to find individuals or groups who have made an impact on the city’s community in the last year.

“I’m calling on the community to help celebrate these unsung heroes by nominating them for this year’s Mayor's Awards,” says Councillor Bradburn. “Let’s shine a light on the individuals and organisations who dedicate themselves to making a difference for the city of Milton Keynes.”

Categories include sport, art, heritage and culture and this year the Mayor is opening nominations for the city’s young people aged 7-13 years.

STEM Awards – ‘Recognising success, celebrating excellence’ is how these popular awards describe themselves. The Milton Keynes STEM Awards are brought together to celebrate the outstanding achievements within Milton Keynes’ vibrant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) community. These important honours encourage success by putting a spotlight on the city’s rising stars, pioneers and innovators.

They might be from a big company, a small start-up business or even an individual person making a name for themselves – the STEM Awards are all about including a wide range of participants from education, business, consultancy, research organisations, associations and not-for-profit programmes.
