Leader of Milton Keynes Council Peter Marland says Boris Johnson is a liar

Last week, footage broke in the national media showing staff at Downing Street laughing about a Christmas Party despite COVID restrictions. Since then, more alleged parties have been coming to light.

In an exclusive interview with MKFM, the Leader of Milton Keynes Council, Cllr Pete Marland, told how no parties took place at the civic offices and he spent his Christmas with his family, but without being able to see his Dad who sadly passed away this year..

Cllr Pete Marland told MKFM: "That's my story and up and down Milton Keynes, up and down the country, everybody has got those stories. They followed the rules and they put themselves and their families and their friends first and I think that's why there is a lot of anger, rightly, out there about what was happening in Downing Street or what could have been happening in Downing Street."

He continued: "If they weren't following the rules, we've missed out on those things and that's why people are annoyed."

Last week, on Wednesday 8th December, Plan B was introduced and from yesterday (13/12), people were told they must work from home if they can. Despite this, pubs, clubs and bars are still open, with Christmas parties still taking place.

Cllr Peter Marland told MKFM: "I don't trust Boris Johnson. I think that's probably an underlying feeling for most people in the country."

When asked if it was because he is of the Conservative party, Pete responded: "I think you always respect a Prime Minister and I think believing somebody is not the same as agreeing with them.

"I didn't always agree with Theresa May or David Cameron, but I certainly believed." He continued: "Whilst I don't agree with the Prime Minister and I don't believe the Prime Minister, I think he's a liar, but I trust Chris Whitty, Mr Van-Tam and I trust the scientists."

Peter Marland told MKFM that he thinks the people would want to know if the government is following what the scientists say or making political choices.

It is hoped that this will be investigated during the review into the government's handling of the pandemic.
