King's Coronation: What events are taking place across Milton Keynes this weekend?

This weekend will see the coronation of King Charles III and we've put together a list of events which will be taking place across Milton Keynes to celebrate.

On Saturday 6th May, over 2,000 people will fill Westminster Abbey for the King and Queen Consort's coronation.

Up and down the country, people are preparing for an extra bank holiday weekend full of celebrations and we've put together a list of events taking place right here in Milton Keynes:

Friday 5 May

Event: Alina Orchestra, Music for the Coronation

Time: 19.30

Location: Church of St Peter and St Paul Newport Pagnell, MK16 8AR

About: Alina Orchestra has created a very special concert to honour the coronation of HRH King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. The orchestra is joined by Polymnia Chamber Choir and soprano, Jessica Wise, as we perform favourites such as Zadok the Priest,  The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Handel’s Water Music and works by Elgar, Walton and Mozart in an event which is packed full of celebration for the local community for this historic occasion.

Saturday 6 May

Event: The Newport Pagnell Coronation Event

Location: Queens Avenue, Bury Common,, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, MK16 8EU, United Kingdom

About: Live screening of the King’s Coronation, live music, silver band, face painting, children’s attraction, covered seating with tables for hire, stalls, food and drink or bring your own picnic.

 

Event: Coronation Party Tinkers Bridge

Time: 12.00 - 19.00

Location: Tinkers Bridge Meeting Place

About: This event is open to the community and surrounding areas, there will be a hog roast, BBQ, refreshments, music, raffle, face painting and a selection of stalls.

Event: Celebrate the Coronation with Midsummer Place

Time: from 10am

About: Midsummer Place are kicking off the celebrations with FREE cake! Because every celebration needs cake, Midsummer Place are giving away special celebratory cupcakes* on Saturday 6th May from 10am. Be quick though as stocks are limited and once the cake is gone its gone.

Whilst in centre this weekend, you can take a seat on their royal throne and strike a pose and don't forget to share your photos on social and tag Midsummer Place in them! There will also be a free colouring area beside the throne, with Coronation themed pictures to colour in and take home.

 

Event: Coronation Celebrations with Fusion Lunch

Time: 10.30-14.30

Location: Milton Keynes Village Hall

About: This is an event organized by the MILTON KEYNES VIHARA based in Willen. Most ethnic/religious community groups in Milton Keynes have been invited to send a representative group of 10-12 people. In addition about 20-25 elderly residents are also being invited, including particularly those living alone. The live broadcast of the coronation will be shown on a large indoor screen. The event will end with a special Buddhist chanting ceremony to bless the King and the Queen.   

 

Event: Coronation Family Fun Day

Time: 12:30-15:30

Location: The Event Hall at Summerfield School, Downley Ave, Bradwell Common, Milton Keynes MK13 8PG

About: This event is for vulnerable Ukrainian refugees, their families, sponsors and growing Ukrainian diaspora in Milton Keynes City and surrounding areas. The event will be presented in both English and Ukrainian languages. The King Coronation event would be the first celebration of this kind to Ukrainian refugees, and we would like to make sure that they have experienced the best of British spirit through our Coronation Family Fun Day.

Sunday 7 May

Event: Action Speaks Community Party

Time: 15.00 - 18.30

Location: Trinity Centre, Fishermead

About: Local residents of Fishermead can enjoy a BBQ, dance, music, raffle, games and entertainment to represent the diverse culture in Fishermead and celebrate the Coronation.

Event: Woburn Sands Community Coronation Street Party

Time: 13.00 - 16.00

Location: Woburn Sands High Street

About: Bring your own picnic and enjoy a Lancaster Bomber Flypast (13.30 approx) and live entertainment.

 

Event: Community Celebration for King Charles III Coronation

Time: 15.00

Location: New Bradwell Sports Association, Recreation Ground, Bradwell Road, Bradville, Milton Keynes MK13 7AD

About: An event for the local community to come together and celebrate the Kings Coronation. Bouncy castle, entertainment, children’s crown making, tug of war, buffet.

Monday 8 May

Event: DJ Hurley's Right Royal Knees Up on MKFM

Time: 10am - 10pm

Event: Making Good Better (MGB) Community

Time: 12.00 start

Location: Fishermead Trinity Centre, Milton Keynes, MK6 2LA 

About: An afternoon of activities including Ghanaian traditional dance show, group dance, refreshments.

Event: Haversham Family Fun Event and BBQ

Time: 13.30-16.30

Location: Haversham Social and Community Centre & Recreation Ground 

About: There’ll be children’s entertainment, bouncy castle, refreshments, grand raffle and summer games such as Tug of War. You can also come along in the morning for a Family Community Litterpick as part of the Big Help Out (10.30-12.00). 

 

Saturday 13 May 

Event: Art in the Park

Time: 13.00 - 21.00 

Location: Campbell Park, Events Plateau, Milton Keynes MK9 4AJ 

About: Delivered annually, Art in the Park is produced by Milton Keynes Islamic Arts & Culture Organisation (MKIAC), now in its 14th year, the free festival is jam-packed with creativity, connectivity and wonderful art for all to enjoy. This year, you can expect music, visual art, creative workshops, a parade and delicious food that represent all of MK’s communities.

This year Art in the Park, will also celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and The Queen Consort.

Event: Celebration fit for a King at Gulliver's Land

Time: All day, all weekend

Location: Gulliver's Land

About: Children’s day tickets for the Milton Keynes theme park over the historic weekend are available for only £6 on Saturday 6 May, £7 for Sunday 7 May and £8 for bank holiday Monday 8 May.

The ‘King’s Big Deal’ special offer children’s tickets, which are available for visits to all four Gulliver’s resorts across the UK, will be on sale for a limited time only. The offer ends at midnight on Thursday 4th May 2023, or when all the limited tickets are sold out, whichever is soonest so people are being encouraged to snap them up fast.
