Is it third time lucky for Milton Keynes trio?

Child band hoping for Britain’s Got Talent success this weekend.

A young Milton Keynes pop group are hoping to make it third time lucky in one of the UK’s biggest talent competitions this weekend, and secure themselves a prime-time TV appearance.

The Childish, a three-piece group made up of Indiana, Kale and Johnson Harris-Herbert, are pinning their hopes on a successful appearance in an audition for this year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester on Saturday.

It’s the third time the talented trio, aged 11, 15 and 16, have bid for stardom on the iconic TV show and now they’re ready for the challenge having rehearsed hard for this series.

Formed in 2020 as The Stencil Pencils, the group wrote a song for a homework project called Quarantine/Covid 19, which went viral on social media and led to them being asked to appear on the children’s CITV show ‘Scrambled’.

The publicity from that caught the eye of BGT producers, and the band were accepted for an audition for the talent contest. But because of the Covid pandemic the programme was postponed.

The trio continued rehearsing and playing festivals, including opening the 'City of Codes and Light' celebrations when Milton Keynes became a city in 2022, alongside Eurovision favourite Sam Ryder.

Two years later the group were asked again to audition for BGT in front of the celebrity judges including Simon Cowell. But they couldn’t be taken forward as the show already had the maximum number of acts for the series.

Now they are back again as The Childish, for their third possible appearance, and are excited finally to have a chance to show everyone their songwriting and performing skills.

“They are going again and hopefully there will be no technicalities or issues this time,” said dad John Harris. “If the audience like them, they might go forward to the next round and then get on the telly. The producers of the show will decide.

“I hope they do well: they have worked hard on their act over the last few months and got it just right.”

The group plan to wow the audience with their song ‘Dreaming’ which features a sample from the famous Paul Simon tune ‘You Can Call Me Al’.

“If they are lucky and progress, they would like to have a go at becoming a professional band,” added John. “But if they don’t make it, they will at least have had a great life lesson and a wonderful experience.”
