Knife blade, sword and cocaine carried by offender.
A man has been jailed for more than two years after he was convicted of weapons and drugs offences, following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
Nathaniel Asempa, 20, of Petersfield Green, Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, one count of possession with intent to supply cocaine, and one count of obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of duty, in a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court in January.
Returning to the same court this week, Asempa was sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment.
He was also ordered to forfeit the weapons for destruction and for the drugs to be seized and was given a Serious Violence Reduction Order (SVRO), which will run for 12 months upon his release from prison.
In April last year, Asempa was seen by members of the public fighting in the city centre around South Tenth Street and was in possession of a sword. It resulted in numerous phone calls to police, but he was not located following a search.
In May, Asempa was detained for a search by police, but he made off from officers, who then located a discarded machete and cocaine. He was arrested, and was charged the following day, 13th May. Asempa was identified for the earlier sword offence by footage provided by a member of the public.
“Asempa is clearly a danger to the public and is a habitual weapons carrier,” said investigating officer Detective Constable Lyndsay Gofton, of Milton Keynes CID.
“He was charged with serious offences and has now been sentenced to prison accordingly. He will also be subjected to an SRVO upon his release, which will give a police officer grounds to detain him for the purpose of carrying searches for any bladed article or offensive weapon.
“This sentence makes Milton Keynes a safer place for our communities to live and work, and I am pleased he will serve a custodial sentence. Through Operation Deter, we adopt a zero tolerance approach to anybody caught in possession of a knife, and we will also seek to pursue and prosecute those who feel it is acceptable to carry such dangerous weapons.
“You can expect to be charged and remanded swiftly if found in possession of such items, and we will never tire of putting offenders before the courts.”
