A local man's innovative and ambitious homebuilding project featured on Grand Designs last night (27/1).

The latest episode of Channel 4's Grand Designs saw Andrew, an energy conservationist from Bletchley, attempt to build his own dream home.

Andrew was joined by his wife Margaretta as they tried to create a self-heating house from the ground up, something which Grand Designs labelled "the first of its kind in the UK".

The local man came up with the idea to create this money-saving self-heating home by "storing the warmth of the summer sun into insulated earth banks".

But despite this ambitious and forward-thinking plan, in the episode's teaser, Andrew admitted that he had never poured concrete before.

Yet this did not stop him! The impressive build, which looks like it could belong in the Hollywood Hills, was commended by the Grand Designs team.

Grand Designs said on Twitter: "For Andrew and Margretta, this build was about finding the balance between science lab and contemporary family home, and we certainly think they succeeded."

The Bletchley build is available to watch on All 4.
