Progress images on the refurbishment of a supermarket in Milton Keynes have been revealed, giving residents an idea of what to look forward to.

Earlier this year, work on the refurbishment of Lidl in Oldbrook began, demolishing a row of stores at the local centre to make space for a larger Lidl.

The stores demolished were Tesco Express, a Barnado’s charity store, a beauty salon, and a Domino’s pizza takeaway.

Lidl was granted planning permission by Milton Keynes City  Council for the new store in April 2021. Three months later the council was forced to quash this consent after Tesco took them to judicial review, meaning the council had to consider the planning application from scratch.

The supermarket’s proposals mean it would increase the Oldbrook store by more than a third, with 128 car parking spaces available, including two “rapid” electric vehicle charging bays.

Council documents show an artists impression of the spacious new supermarket, which will also be more modern and in line with Lidl’s latest specification.

In July 2022, Lidl’s application was re-considered and once again granted.

The Lidl plans "do not compromise" the local centre’s viability, the report said.

Elsewhere, a new Aldi store opened in Olney.
