‘Stay off the pavement’ call as city council clamps down on thoughtless drivers.
More than 1000 fines have been issued to illegal parkers in parts of Milton Keynes in the last six months as the city’s council steps up the battle against inconsiderate motorists.
Milton Keynes City Council’s Civil Enforcement Officers have already dished out 1,190 penalty charge notices to drivers of illegally parked cars in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, and there’s more to come.
MKCC has limited enforcement powers when it comes to some types of violations, such as stopping on a pavement which can only be enforced by the police, but the Labour-led authority is actively exploring ways to tackle bad parking on Bletchley’s Queensway along with Aylesbury Street, near Fenny Stratford, through its community-led regeneration of the historic town centre.
Feedback from a recent consultation on public realm improvements in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford will help the council set out a strategy for proposed enhancements to those streets, with a focus on tackling the parking issues.
“Illegal parking is a real concern in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, and we’re determined to address it head-on,” said Councillor Akash Nayee, Cabinet member for Public Realm.
“Unfortunately, pavement parking in most cases can only be dealt with by the police, but MK Labour is committed to tackling the problem and will continue to issue fines where we can, with a zero-tolerance stance on illegal parking.
“We are continuing to engage with the local community and develop improvement plans for Queensway and Aylesbury Street which include tackling the issues of parking on the high street.”
