Hospital charity launches the Big Christmas Give

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity is launching ‘The Big Christmas Give’ appeal today, with the aim of raising £10,000 to buy items that will make a huge difference to patients and visitors at the hospital.

Every year the public, local businesses and schools dig deep and bring a huge amount of presents to Milton Keynes University Hospital. This year, the charity is asking those kind donors to donate to their Christmas appeal instead – to help fund specific items on a wish list that will create a lasting impact for patients and their families.

Three areas have been chosen to benefit from the appeal this year: the children’s wards; cancer services and dementia services.

Head of fundraising, Vanessa Holmes said: “We’re asking people to donate to our Big Christmas Give and help make a lasting difference to patients and their families.

“Over Christmas we get a lot of presents donated to the wards, which is so kind and generous, but this year we’re looking to create a lasting legacy through the funding of items on a wish list.”

“We’ve been working hard with wards and departments to find out what they need and what would make a difference to patients and their families not only at Christmas but throughout the year.

“We would love the local community to get on board and support the appeal today.”

Items on the wish list include televisions, yellow clocks to help patients with dementia tell the time, sensory items for patients with dementia, play equipment for young patients and drip stands and more comfortable chairs for the chemotherapy unit.

To make a donation people can donate via www.justgiving.com/mkhcharity (look for the Big Christmas Give logo), text HOHO11 £3 to 70070 or contact the fundraising team on 01908 826690 / fundraising@mkuh.nhs.uk.

People can also take part in the charity’s annual Christmas Jumper Day, this year taking place on Thursday December 7. For more information visit www.facebook.com/mkhcharity.
