Wolverton War Memorial, which commemorates 125 WW1 and 25 WW2 servicemen, was vandalised last night.
People shared images of the memorial, which stands in The Square, surrounded by litter and plants that had been pulled out of the ground.
It has since been reported that caretakers from Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council are on site tidying up and re-planting.
People have condemned the vandals for being 'disrespectful', having 'no respect', and are now questioning whether The Square has CCTV.
The War Memorial takes the form of a slender column with the gilded insignia of the Armed Services engraved to each side of the column: Royal Navy (north), Army (east), Royal Marines (south) and RAF (west).
It is a Grade II listed memorial due to historic interest and architectural interest.
