A glider pilot has died in a crash during take-off at Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire.

The London Gliding Club said a "serious accident" took place at about 12:30 on Wednesday 16th August.

Bedfordshire Police say a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene and officers are now appealing for witnesses.

The club says there is no indication of what caused the crash.

A club spokeswoman said the British Gliding Association was also carrying out an investigation, and added: "At the present time there is no indication of the cause of the accident."

A team of inspectors travelled to the site this afternoon to examine the glider and begin gathering evidence," a spokesperson said on Wednesday.
