Funding secured for swimming pool in Milton Keynes

Swimming facilities at Woughton Leisure Centre have been given a significant boost as Milton Keynes City Council secures almost £300,000 in funding.

Parkwood Leisure, the leisure centre operated by the city council, will receive the funds obtained by the city council through the Sports England Phase II Swimming Pool Support Fund in order to increase carbon efficiency at the location. Many leisure centres across the country are in danger of closing due to rising energy prices. This funding will allow high quality sustainability upgrades at the leisure centre, including energy-efficient heating systems and solar panels to help keep bills down in the future.

Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, Councillor Mick Legg said, “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure this finding for Woughton Leisure Centre. We know that many centres have been left struggling and this will help to keep bills down, which in turn helps to keep Woughton Leisure Centre continue serving the community. We’ll continue to campaign for more money so we can help centres who are dealing with the spike in energy costs become more efficient and sustainable.”
