A motion intending to transform the area around Bletchley railway station into an attractive gateway experience as part of Central Bletchley’s regeneration was passed unanimously at last week’s meeting of MK’s Full Council.
Bletchley Park Conservative Councillor Allan Rankine moved the motion saying that he wanted the Council to commit to boosting Central Bletchley with a host of upgrades that would turn the station and surrounding area into a welcoming experience that “increases pride in our community.”
Among the plans include a memorial garden to Bletchley Park hero, Alan Turing, coupled with a statue of the famous mathematician, the reconstruction of the fire damaged pavilion building so that it can be turned into a café and visitor centre and a large plaza area to the west of Bletchley station to enable safe crossing for visitors and students.
The motion’s success means the regeneration plans will be considered by the Cabinet, Officers and the Towns Fund Board as part of ways to spend the £23 million the Conservative Government has invested in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford.
Cllr Allan Rankine said: “It is great news for residents of Bletchley and Milton Keynes that the Council has issued its support for the Conservative motion to build Bletchley back better.
I hope that these regeneration plans will drive Bletchley forward and create more jobs and prosperity for residents.”
