Food and garden waste collections in Milton Keynes to resume from next week

A councillor for Milton Keynes has confirmed that food and green waste collections will resume from Wednesday 18th August.

MKFM can now confirm that food and garden waste collections are to restart from Wednesday 18th August.

Collections were suspended last month due to reduced staff numbers caused by COVID-19 and self-isolation.

Milton Keynes Council say that since the pause, Serco has implemented new protocols for testing and a quicker return to work.

Residents are being warned of delays due to a predicted backlog of waste and will not be accepting bagged green waste in addition to the bins.

Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, Councillor Lauren Townsend said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we’ve had to pause weekly green bin collections, and our bin crews who have worked tirelessly in these exceptional circumstances to keep waste and recycling collections going as usual.

"When food and garden waste collections were suspended, the council wrote to everyone who subscribes to its council news email service and took out a radio advertising campaign to reach as many people as possible. Residents are asked to help by sharing the information as widely as possible with friends and neighbours.”

Milton Keynes Council is asking residents to put all bins outside as normal from Wednesday 18th August and to share the news with those who may not have access to do so themselves.
