Curly Tails Pig Sanctuary founder takes on fifth and final virtual marathon.
Jane Scott, the dedicated founder of Curly Tails Pig Sanctuary and Wellbeing Centre, is preparing to take on her fifth and final virtual TCS London Marathon this year. This milestone challenge represents years of dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the sanctuary she built from the ground up.
Curly Tails, based in Newton Longville, is a registered charity dedicated to porcine rescue and animal welfare, as well as providing animal-assisted therapy for education, learning, mental health, and wellbeing. The sanctuary operates on a non-commercial, non-exploitative basis, ensuring that all engagements with animals are meaningful and beneficial for both humans and pigs. Visitors come from across Buckinghamshire and beyond, experiencing first-hand the unique environment where people and animals thrive together.
Many of the pigs at Curly Tails were at risk of euthanasia before being given a second chance at life at the sanctuary. Here, they receive essential care, shelter, and rehabilitation to ensure they can live safe, enriched lives. The sanctuary is a place of healing, not just for the animals, but for the many people who visit and benefit from its wellbeing programs.
Jane is taking on this marathon while managing life-limiting health conditions. She lives with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), both of which make physical exertion incredibly challenging. In addition, after overcoming aggressive breast cancer, she continues to deal with the long-term side effects of chemotherapy, which affect her energy levels, mobility, and overall health, making this marathon an extraordinary personal challenge.
“My health presents challenges, but it won’t stop me. Walking this marathon will be tough, but I’m determined to see it through. Curly Tails is my life’s work, and completing this challenge will help make a real difference,” says Jane.
Over the years, Jane’s marathon efforts have raised crucial funds, improving the pigs’ welfare and helping secure the sanctuary’s future. While this will be her final marathon, the impact of her efforts will last for years to come.
