Election results: Conservatives lose six seats in Milton Keynes

The results for the Milton Keynes local elections 2023 have been announced as 20 of the 57 seats on the unitary authority faced the polls.

Elections have taken place in MK across all 19 Borough Wards, with one vacancy in each ward except for Central Milton Keynes ward, which has two vacancies.

Elections were held in 230 of England's 317 councils, within district, borough, county borough and unitary authority councils with results coming in waves throughout today.

The results are in for Milton Keynes with no party majority meaning no change. However, Labour now hold 25 seats, while Conservative hold 17 and Liberal Democrats 15.

29 seats are needed for an overall majority.

This year, there were a few notable names seeking re-election, including Milton Keynes City Council leader Peter Marland (Labour) and deputy leader Robin Bradburn (Lib Dem), who have managed to both keep their seats.

The big shock of the election was the Labour win of Olney. Councillor Debbie Whitworth won by 46 votes, the first time a Labour councillor has ever been able to do so in the area.

Peter Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes City Council and Labour councillor for the Wolverton ward, told MKFM: "It's gone really, really well and the fact that we have had our best result since 1997 and even at the height, just before Tony Blair was elected prime minister, the Labour party has never won in Olney, never won in Danesborough and we've done that this year."
