Dangerous car meetings targeted by Milton Keynes police

Man arrested and protection orders issued in roads operation.

Police officers from Milton Keynes’ North Neighbourhood Team have been tackling anti-social behaviour linked to car meets in the city. They arrested one man and stopped and lectured other motorists as part of ‘Operation Chromium’, a campaign designed to stamp out dangerous driving.

The man was arrested for driving while disqualified, having no insurance and using fraudulent number plates. He was also wanted on a Fail to Appear (FTA) warrant and is now in custody.

Two PSPOs (Public Space Protection Orders) were issued for anti-social behaviour related to the car meeting, while several vehicles were stopped and their drivers given advice about their behaviour on the city’s roads.

Several number plates of vehicles were also noted down by officers with the potential for letters to be sent to their owners.

“A reminder to all: Milton Keynes City Council introduced a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in 2020 under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 after over 1000 residents reported being negatively affected by vehicle-related anti-social behaviour,” said a police spokesperson.

Taking part in anti-social car cruising behaviours, including excessive noise, revving and dangerous speeds, is a breach of the PSPO. Drivers caught can be issued with a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) by police or an authorised officer.

If you have concerns about street racing or anti-social vehicle use in your area, report it on 101 or online. In an emergency, call 999.
