Consultation launched for new Aldi store opening in Milton Keynes

Aldi wants to hear your feedback on their plans for a new store at Warrington Road, Olney.

In a statement describing their plans for the new shop, a spokesperson for Aldi said: "Aldi has a presence in other parts of Milton Keynes, however there are no stores in Olney and this site is an ideal location for a new low cost, high-quality food store which would give local residents more of a choice when shopping without having to travel out of Olney.

"The site has been designated for employment use in the Neighbourhood Plan and currently has outline planning permission for a new hotel and employment units.

"Whilst a new food store would be classified as retail, rather than employment, Aldi believes a new store would be more beneficial to the community than a hotel.

"The new store would provide local people with easier access to our popular, high quality, great value offer. The proposal will enhance local shopping choice, reduce the need to travel and create at up to 25 new jobs.

"We are keen to hear your views before we finalise our plans, so please do give us your feedback."

Aldi plans to ensure that the new site has a number of sustainable measures in place such as recovering waste heat generated by the refrigeration system and re-using it to provide heat to the building, as well as sourcing produce locally - which reduces the miles travelled from field to plate.

Aldi will consider all comments received before finalising and submitting a planning application to Milton Keynes Council. If the planning application is approved, Aldi plans to open as soon as possible.
